The changes should not have a significant impact on landlords who are already meeting the existing standards, but it is important to ensure all landlords are aware of the changes in legislation.
The changes were made to help improve practice in the private rented sector to ensure landlords provide well managed, good quality and safe homes for their tenants.

The Scottish Repairing Standard requires all rented property to be fitted with mains powered smoke detectors in all circulations areas/hallways and also a smoke detector in the living room and a heat detector in the kitchen.

The new requirements will apply to all Scottish privately rented properties covered by the Repairing Standard.
