Where has time gone? I have been selling and letting properties for 40 years. Estate agency is certainly in my blood; my late father David Marshall was a founding partner of Marshall Shepherd and Redman a very successful firm of estate agents in Ware and Hertford. Dad gave me my introduction to the business, you could say a baptism of fire! We decided that once I had learnt the basics I would head off to the world of corporate estate agency.

Having worked for 2 years with Connells, Bairstow Eves and 5 years with John H James and Company prior to them being bought out by GA Property Services. Corporate estate agency is not as flexible or enjoyable as independent firms. I spent 15 years from 1990 to 2005 as a founding partner of Mather Marshall, another leading independent Hertfordshire estate agents.

Through sheer hard work and determination, we quickly expanded and now have a team of people selling and letting properties in the business with over 110 years of combined knowledge, we are all based in one office.

The first step is often getting a realistic valuation.
When looking to appoint an estate agent you may receive valuations with perhaps one appearing higher than the others do.
This is possibly because the agent is trying to ''buy your business.
This is something we will not do.
If the valuation is too unrealistically high the property will not sell and you will waste your time and potential money if you have to dramatically cut the price.
Prior to visiting the property we carry out significant market research looking at a range of local comparable properties.
