The parent company, Ulverston Auction Mart PLC was originally formed in 1877 and traditionally employed auctioneers from Messrs Alfred Coward and Sons, Land Agents and Auctioneers to conduct their weekly livestock sales in Ulverston. Since 1877, Harrison Coward has retained the auctioneers and land agency and developed into a full and professional service for customers moving house from the initial appraisal through to mortgage/Home Buyers reports, assistance in house clearance etc.

In the late 1920s the parent company purchased Messrs Alfred Coward and Sons and thereby expanded their expertise into the land agency and rural property sphere.
In 1935 a further expansion took place with the acquisition of Messrs F J Harrison & Sons who specialised in urban properties and specialist antique furniture sales.
